stop calling it a spill!
Posted on May 26, 2010 with 0 commentsi am so angry right now...what the fuck is wrong with people? this is not a "spill." spills are accidents that happen and are usually contained to a particular area. the flow is stopped and cleanup begins. this bp/halliburton shit is way more than that. oil and methane gas have been gushing from below the ocean floor for 34 days. 34 fucking days. with no end in sight. there is nothing that you and i as individuals can do to stop this, but please be aware of the immense level of this disaster. this "spill" is the size of rhode island.
forget the fact that your government tried to keep this quiet and scolded the press for asking questions.
forget the fact that a halliburton crew was involved.
forget the fact that the engineering logs are missing from the seven hours before the explosion.
forget the fact that halliburton bought an oil spill cleanup company 10 days before the incident.
this is beyond stupid. this is criminal. diabolical. 34 days and nothing is done. they could have permanently closed up the hole immediately, but that would have interfered with the bazillion dollars in profits that bp hoped to make from this oil. they bullshit for weeks while they build "relief wells" so they can still try to get their hands on that oil. now, instead of a minor spill, we are looking at complete contamination of the gulf of mexico and everything that lives in it. not to mention the people who live along the coast breathing toxic air and exposed to toxic soil and water. this will affect millions of people and the chemical "dispersants" they are pumping out will do more harm than good.
worst case scenario: this will kill the marine life from louisiana to florida. a lot of the oil will sit there in the seabed continuing to contaminate and will potentially spread on into the atlantic ocean, up the east coast and over to europe. it will be years before nature can repair itself from yet another destructive act by greedy corporations.
best case scenario: major fail/fubar.
i don't know what else to say. here are a few links. watch and read for yourself.
