Dee Stone is a gifted vocalist. Her powerful pipes and electrifying stage presence have led to comparisons with great R&B/Soul singers like Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, and Phoebe Snow; even jazz vocalist Sarah Vaughan. Dee names all of them as influences, as well as Joyce Kennedy (Mother's Finest) and Stevie Wonder. Her melodious voice can belt out a high-powered rock song or soar through a delicate jazz cut. She lights up the stage like only she can and, when she flashes that captivating smile of hers, you know she is happy to have you along for the ride.
Dee performs with a trio of accomplished musicians: Charles Wright on guitar, Chuck Carter on bass, and Ignatius Mason on drums. You will also see her around town with guitar virtuoso Charles Wright, as the acoustic duo Stone/Wright. The duo was recently nominated for two WAMMIE awards from the Washington Area Music Association.
Always pushing boundaries, Dee performs an eclectic mix of rock, funk, soul, blues, and jazz, along with original songs that have been described as soulful blues/rock. She has recorded four cd's and her music has received airplay on internet radio as well as public radio stations.
Dee's musical journey began in York, Pennsylvania. She briefly studied guitar before finding her true voice, and began singing professionally at the age of 16. She lives in northern Virginia and has performed at numerous venues and festivals throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan region.
